GOAL:

Do I need to upgrade my ABA server?

GOAL:

When using a CorVu ABA server and you upgrade your Progress version, is an upgrade of the ABA server also required?

FIX:

When using a CorVu ABA server (created with e.g. Progress 9.1C) and you upgrade your Progress version within the same major release (e.g. from Progress 9.1C to 91.D), an upgrade of the ABA server isn't necessarily required.

1. If you have a valid 9.1A or 9.1C client networking license, then you can still use the 9.1A or 9.1C ABA driver to connect to a 9.1D database via client networking (i.e. with -N, -H, -S startup parameters defined).

2. An upgrade of the ABA server will be necessary, on the other hand, if you want to use the ABA shared memory connection to a 9.1D database; database and ABA server must also be of the same patch level. An upgrade is also necessary if after installing Progress you only intend to have the one Progress version on the machine (e.g. 9.1D is installed and then 9.1C removed), since ABA drivers require a progress.cfg with at least 1 user client networking license for the relevant Progress version.

From the point of view of functionality, there will generally be no difference between different ABA server versions.
