How to apply a patch to a double-byte enabled environment

This knowledgebase entry describes the situation where a double-byte
enabled environment seems to lose the double-byte feature after
applying a patch. It also covers how to install a patch on a
double-byte enabled environment.

The PROGRESS executable on Windows is _prowin.exe. The double-byte
enabled executable is _prowina.exe. When the double-byte enabled
product is installed, it copies _prowina.exe over the existing
_prowin.exe. In doing this it is renamed to _prowin.exe. This
allows the user to run _prowin.exe as he normally would using the
double-byte feature.

When a patch is released it comes with _prowin.exe (for single-byte
customers) and _prowina.exe (for double-byte customers). The
installation instructions say to copy everything over to the user's
system. The user would then end up with both _prowin.exe and
_prowina.exe. When he runs _prowin.exe as he normally does it would
pick up the single-bye executable.

The solution is to either copy _prowina.exe to _prowin.exe (renaming
it to _prowin.exe in the process), or change the run statements
to run _prowina.exe instead of _prowin.exe. This second approach is
less recommended since PROGRESS' process for shipping executables
may change in the future, but it is more intuitive.

This only applies to customers running under Windows.
