FACT(s) (Environment):
UNIX
Progress 9.1D
SYMPTOM(s):
Installation stalls after selecting the default language.
The selection bar will move up/down.
Selection of the <Cancel> option will successfully abort the installation process.
CAUSE:
The operating systems environment (i.e. PATH) is not pointing to a 1.3.0 JDK/JRE installation directory. This error is likely to occur when a newer JDK/JRE release (such as 1.3.1 or 1.4.x) is installed and the operating system's environment (i.e. PATH) is correctly pointing to this newer JDK/JRE installation. This occurs because the Progress 9.1D installation script (proinst) is expecting to only find a 1.3.0 JDK/JRE installation.
FIX:
Point the operating systems environment (i.e. PATH) to a 1.3.0 JDK/JRE installation directory. This will allow the Progress installation script to complete. Once the installation completes, be sure to modify the $DLC/java_env script to point to the JDK/JRE installation directory (as the Progress 'proinst' process would have been tailored this script to point to the 1.3.0 JDK/JRE installation directory).
