-SS parameter for proutil -C idxbuild explained
GOAL:
-SS and index rebuild
FACT(s) (Environment):
OpenEdge 10.0A
All Supported Operating Systems
OpenEdge Database Category: Maintenance
FIX:
-SS parameter for proutil -C idxbuild keeps old functionality from versions 8 and 9 known as multi volume sort files.
Starting with Progress 9.1D08 and OpenEdge 10.0A, proutil -C idxbuild can create sort files bigger than 2 GB, so there would no longer be a reason for multi volume sort file.
-SS parameter allows to use old functionality, which means that it is possible to define multi user sort file -> <name.srt> and use -SS path\<name.srt> within the proutil -C idxbuild command; index rebuild will use/create sort files defined in the <name.srt> file. This could be useful when filesystem does not support large files, or when the disk space needed by index rebuild is spread across several file systems.
