Status: Unverified
FACT(s) (Environment):
Windows 2000
Novell Netware
SYMPTOM(s):
Novell users trying to authenticate against Windows machine using UNC convention.
** Unable to open file: <file-name>. Errno=<number>. (98)
** Unable to open file: <file-name>. Errno=22. (98)
CHANGE:
Novell server tied into Windows network.
CAUSE:
UNC is not automatically authenticated
FIX:
Use of mapped drives between Novell and Windows automatically authenticates a user; a UNC connection does not.
When using UNC pathing to Windows, users need to be authenticated against all servers being used with the UNC connection. A domain logon automatically authenticates users for multiple servers.
Ensure users are authenticated on all Windows servers prior to setting up UNC mapping by logging onto the domain.
