GOAL:
Is it possible to read a 64 bit probkup file using a 32 bit Progress version?
FACT(s) (Environment):
All Supported Operating Systems
Progress/OpenEdge Product Family
FIX:
Yes, this is possible as long as you are not changing the platform and underlying chipset.
Two examples:
1. A Progress backup taken using 32-bit Progress for Solaris (SPARC processor) can be restored using 64-bit Progress for Solaris (SPARC processor). However it could not be restored if using Progress on Solaris Intel.
2. A Progress backup taken on RedHat Linux for Intel cannot be restored using Progress on RedHat Linux for PowerPC, because the chipset is different, however you could backup using Progress 32-bit on RedHat Linux for Intel and restore to Progress 64-bit on RedHat Linux for Intel.
