Network address change detected message on Novell console.

DRAFT COPY - Currently under review and edit.

INTRODUCTION:
=============
Most servers advertise their presence in a network using a sap packet.
service access protocol packet.

WHY YOU NEED TO KNOW THIS:
=========================
Messages are written to the log file and to the Novell console.
In case of version 3.1x.
1. The message will be written to the file server router tracking
screen.

In case of version 4.01.
1. If the message comes up often then it may be difficult to enter co
mmands at the file-server console
2. The file-server error log will continue to grow taking up
disk space.

PROCEDURAL APPROACH:
===================
This message is caused by the fact that there are two servers in a
single network.
To have two servers in a network is not a problem.
But when these servers have the same name AND the same server-type,
one of the above messages will be generated.

Whenever two SAP (service access protocol) packets have been received
at a Novell file server with the same name and type but with different
addresses, the address changed message will be displayed.

In version 3.1x of Novell netware the message was displayed in the
router tracking screen.
So some users may have had duplicate servers with the same name and
type but never noticed.

In version 4.01 the message is displayed at the file-server console an
and written to the error log. If the number of messages is quit heavy
it might be difficult to enter commands at the prompt.

Note : The server for which the address change has been detected does
not need to be a file server.
It can be any kind of server that uses sap-packets to broadcast its
location.

Solution
The two servers need to be located and one of them need to be reconfi
gured with a different name æ.

With Netware 4.01 the sap information displays both addresses, server
name and the router node address.

With Netware 3.1x only the name of the server is displayed.
