GOAL:
What must be done differently when installing Progress Version 9 to support UTF-8?
FACT(s) (Environment):
All Supported Operating Systems
Progress 9.1x
OpenEdge 10.x
FIX:
Basically nothing is done differently.
UTF-8 support is built into the Progress products with the exceptions as noted in Table 8-1 "Support for Multi-byte Characters" in the Progress Internationalization Guide.
The only item that might be reconsidered is when choosing Language support for a developer.
Developers that want or have the need to test how each clients display would appear including the native language error messages, should have the PROMSGS files available for the languages they are working with. These files are provided at installation time if the languages are selected when the "Language Choice" dialog box appears. Otherwise only three folders will be included under the PROLANG directory, the chosen "default language", UTF and CONVMAP folders and the PROMSGS files for other languages will not be available.
