FACT(s) (Environment):
OpenEdge 10.0A
Windows XP
SYMPTOM(s):
OpenEdge 10 Unicode client displays garbage for extended characters.
East Asian languages are not displayed correctly.
Some extended characters are not displayed correctly.
Using a UTF-8 database.
Client is being started up with the parameters "-cpinternal UTF-8" and "-cpstream UTF-8".
CAUSE:
OS Support for east Asian languages is not installed and/or a non-Unicode font is being used.
FIX:
To be able to see all characters correctly for all supported languages in a Unicode client on Windows XP, you need to have the following:
1) Install Supplemental language support:
Control Panel->
Regional and Language Options->
Languages tab->
Supplemental language support->
Check 'Install files for East Asian languages'
2) To work with Unicode you need to have a font that supports Unicode:
Specify, for example, the Arial Unicode MS font for the widget in question.
