GOAL:
ESC "Escape" key cannot be used as standalone on UNIX platforms.
FIX:
On a UNIX platform, the ESC key can only be used in conjunction with another key. The ESC key on UNIX does not act like the ESC key on a DOS system. This is because on UNIX, Progress makes use of the $DLC/protermcap file. The protermcap is a terminal definition file that contains a terminal description of your monitor's terminal type. Progress uses this file to determine how to interact with your terminal, console, or terminal emulator.
In the protermcap file, the ESC key is defined as a "leadin character" (the first key in a two key sequence key press). A leadin character requires a secondary key be pressed prior to an action being taken. Example: ESC-G = GOTO.
Efforts could be made to modify the protermcap in an effort to have the ESC key function as a single key press. However this is a large task considering that there are many other keys and functions which are dependant on the two-key relationship with the ESC key. Each of these two key combinations would also need to be remapped. Modifications to the protermcap are not recommended or supported by Progress.
