SYMPTOM(s):
Insufficient disk space errors during Progress 8.x installation
Not enough disk space when installing on Windows
The installation utility has detected that there is insufficient disk space available
The installation utility has detected insufficient disk space available
INSTALLATION ERROR (148): Out of disk space.
FACT(s) (Environment):
More than 4GB of disk space available on the designated drive
The Progress 8.3x install program erroneously detects insufficient free disk space even though there is plenty of disk space left
Progress 8.3x
Windows
CAUSE:
The Progress 8.3x installation routine is only able to handle a maximum of 4GB correctly. When there is more than 4GB of free disk space, for example 11.07GB, then it will truncate all values before the decimal symbol. The decimal value is then reported as the amount of free disk space, for example 0.07GB.
FIX:
To workaround the problem perform one of the following 3 options:
A. Copy the CD to the hard disk and install from the new location.
B. Temporarily fill up part of the disk drive in order to get a high value for the decimal value of free disk space, for example 10.98GB.
C. Use The Windows Application Compatibility Mode
1. Right click on Progress setup.exe on CD.
2. Click on Properties.
3. Click on the Compatibility tab.
4. Click on Run this program in compatibility mode and select Windows 2000 from the list:
? Windows 95
? Windows 98
? Windows NT 4
? Windows 2000
5. Leave the rest of the menu picks at the defaults.
