Progress 9.1D
Progress 9.1E
OpenEdge 10.x
FIX:
Progress Service Packs where introduced in Progress 9.1D and they are not installed the same way as patches used to be.
A Service Pack uses an installation program (Installshield on Windows Systems and proinst on Unix systems) whereas patches were simply a zip (on Windows) or a tar (on UNIX) file to apply on the top of an existing installation, by simply overwriting the installed files.
With the introduction of Progress Service packs, it is necessary to unzip (on Windows) or extract the tar (on Unix) the Service Pack file into a temporary directory and then execute setup.exe (on Windows) or proinst (on UNIX).
Prior to the installation of the Progress Service Pack make sure to shutdown all instances of Progress that are running. If all processes are not shutdown, the Service Pack will not be able to install properly.
To install a Service Pack on Windows:
1. Save the file into a temporary directory.
2. Create a new folder for use when unzipping the self-extracting Progress Service Pack.
3. Extract/Unzip the zip the Progress Service Pack into the new folder.
4. Run "setup.exe" from the folder where the files where unzipped.
5. Progress will detect the proper Progress install directory and begin the installation of the service pack.
To install a Service Pack on Unix:
1. Save the file into a temporary directory.
2. Extract the tar file into the new directory.
3. Execute Proinst
4. Progress will ask for the current Progress install directory and begin the installation of the service pack.
If you have unzipped or extracted the tar Service Pack file over the top of your existing Progress installation, then you will need to reinstall Progress before applying the Service Pack as the core installation is corrupted.
Note: The default behavior of the Progress Service Pack installation is to make a backup copy of the Progress install directory to allow backing out of the newly applied Service Pack, if necessary. If there is not sufficient disk space you may remove the checkmark.
Failure to backup the Progress install directory means that recovery of the previous installation is only possible by a complete reinstall of the original product and previous service pack.
