FACT(s) (Environment):
IBM AIX 4.3.3
SYMPTOM(s):
cannot load java: dependant module libC.a (shr.o) could not be loaded
Installation of 9.1D fails
java -version returns also error
could not load java: dependant module libc.a (shr.o) could not be loaded
CAUSE:
There was an OS incompatibility between the JRE installed and /usr/lib/libC.a
FIX:
Install Maintenance Level 10
Install JRE 1.3.1
Run
ln -s /usr/lib/libC.a /usr/lpp/xlC/lib/profiled/aix43/libC.a
Install Progress 9.1D
Install Service Pack 9.1D06 (or later) for the support of JRE 1.3.1
