GOAL:

Issues with Progress and Xeon hyper-threading technology processors

GOAL:

Are there any known problems with running Progress on a Xeon processor?

GOAL:

Is Progress supported on Xeon hyper-threading technology processors?

FIX:

Currently there is no evidence to suggest that the sporadic block corruption seen when running Progress V9.1C and above on a Xeon processor based environment is explicitly related to Xeon Hyper-Threading technology or the underlying operating system.

A special bug has been logged (ref 20031029-019) to capture all Xeon processor related issues.

Xeon Processor related block corruption has been reported under all of the following environments
UnixWare 7.1.1 Hyper-Threading disabled/enabled
Red Hat 8.2 Hyper-Threading enabled
SCO OpenUnix8 Hyper-Threading disabled

There is no evidence to suggest that OpenEdge 10 will not also show the same sporadic block corruption.

Progress Software is working closely with the Progress community and the relevant hardware vendors in isolating and fixing this apparent Xeon processor related block corruption issue.
