Why Aren't HP Terminals Supported in V7 or V8?
HP terminals are not supported in version 7 or version 8 of Progress.
They were included in the version 6 protermcap file but are also
not considered supported in version 6.
The reason is that the way that real HP terminals expect the control
codes to come in and the way that we write stuff out are essentially
different methodologies. It is an architectural difference contrary
to the way we handle our character mode processing. The result is
that the display on real HP terminals is painfully slow to the point
of unacceptable performance.
Version 7 and 8 also include an hpterm entry in protermcap. If
a customer is using hpterm emulation, the performance might be ok
but this is not considered a supported environment as we do not
support terminal emulation.
However, real HP terminals are painfully slow and therefore HP
terminals are not supported.
