GOAL:

Dynamics. Importing ICFCONFIG.XML Files

FACT(s) (Environment):

Dynamics 2.1A

FIX:

Many users have modified their configuration files by hand for various reasons. When this has been done, the configuration data in the repository has not been synchronized with the configuration file. With the ability to retrieve the session type data from the repository at run time it is now more important than ever that the session types are maintained and kept in the repository.
To simplify the process of getting all the users? session data into the repository, a new tool has been provided to import the data from the configuration file, (Configuration File Import).

It is very important to realize that this tool (Configuration File Import) needs to be used extremely cautiously because it has the potential of completely invalidating the session types and related data that have already been set up.

It is also important to realize that this tool (Configuration File Import ) is not intended to completely create all the data that is needed. The reason for this is that the configuration file contains a denormalized view of the session data that was intended to start the environment. It does not contain a lot of the information that is applicable to things like manager types and logical services, which means that it is not possible to correctly populate these tables from the import.

Once a configuration file has been imported, it is expected that the user will go back and verify that all the data that was added is correct. It is also necessary to edit the imported session types to correct the inheritance.
