FACT(s) (Environment):
Windows ME
Windows XP
SYMPTOM(s):
ActiveX: Text File opened with weird characters with Word in WinXP and WinME
When you open a text file in Microsoft Word from Progress, if the text file contains special characters, the file will be translated using a special encoding and not the windows standard encoding.
CAUSE:
Anytime you open a .txt file which contains special characters like "ñ" it asks for the encoding of this file. So, if you open the file from Progress the text box asking for the encoding will not appear but the file will be encoded using the first encoding found.
FIX:
Possible solutions:
- The Text file needs to have UNICODE encoding. If so Microsoft Word doesn't need to translate the encoding as it's the standard.
- Use a Doc file.
