FACT(s) (Environment):

Citrix WinFrame
Windows NT 4.0 Terminal Server Edition
Windows 2000 Advanced Server
Progress 8.x
Progress 9.x

SYMPTOM(s):

Fill-In widgets have their labels gray regardless of background color chosen.

Fill-IN background is white while background is green.

Editor widget empty lines have a green background while non-empty lines have a white background.

Running certain applications involving colors on any of the above OS platforms.

CAUSE:

This problem is caused by the 256 color limitation imposed by the Microsoft based terminal server. When a widget color needs more 256 colors to be rendered and the the operating system fails to supply these colors because it does not support more than 256 colors, widget color distortions occur.

Microsoft based terminal servers do not support more than 256 colors at this time. However MS may support more than 256 colors in its future Windows .NET terminal server release.

FIX:

Limit the widget colors in any one window to the 256 colors available.
