INS key does/doesn't toggle insert Mode in GUI Proc Editor
INS key doesn't toggle Insert Mode in a GUI Procedure Editor prior to
version 8.2A. Insert/Overstrike is available with 8.2A and above.
On GUI platforms prior to 8.2a (such as MS-Windows and Motif), there
is no insert mode in the Procedure Editor - insert mode only applies
to fill-ins. This was to keep the Progress Procedure Editor consistent
with these GUI operating system user interfaces at the time they where
built. MS-Windows and Motif do not use overstrike mode.
On Character platforms (such as DOS), the INS key does toggle
Insert Mode in the character mode Procedure Editor.
This applies to v7 and through 8.2a, and is documented in the v7
Portability Guide.
In version 8.2a The LARGE editor (which is used by the procedure
editor) supports insert/overstrike in 8.2A. It is not supported in
versions prior to 8.2a. This new functionality is available in 8.2A
because we switched from using the HighEdit DLL to the RichEdit
control for the LARGE editor. HighEdit did not support overstike, but
RichEdit does.
