GOAL:
Can ALT-A be mapped in protermcap?
FACT(s) (Environment):
UNIX
CAUSE:
PROTERMCAP syntax specifies: ·\999· as the octal representation of a character to be sent. This makes all the characters whose octal value exceeds 777 (octal) or 511 (decimal) not representable and hence can not be included in PROTERMCAP file mapping.
The exception to the above is the control character modifier combinations of the form CTRL-x because the mnemonic "^" is used to send the CTRL character.
ALT-A is not sendable via PROTERMCAP because its decimal code value of 1089 (ALT Code = 1024 + A Code = 65) well exceeds the maximum allowed.

FIX:
Select some other key combination. Avoid using SHIFT and ALT
