FACT(s) (Environment):

SYMPTOM(s):
Database shutdown and cannot be restarted.
Cannot delete any files to make room on the drive.
bkxtn: write to disk failed
Insufficient disk space noted in log file.
CAUSE:
Ran out of disk space.
FIX:
In this instance the following resolved the space problem.
Move the bi file to a new location with plenty of space.
Use the UNIX command (ln) to create a link to the new location of the bi file.
Start up the database.
