FACT(s) (Environment):
Windows 32bit
SYMPTOM(s):
I18N. Window Title not displaying correct characters after Translation
Window Title displays garbage characters
Toggle-boxes labels displays garbage characters
CAUSE:
One of the most common causes that after translating one application, (in example from Latin character to Cyrilic character), the titles of the windows display incorrect characters and seem not translated, is:
The windows Appearance fonts for displaying the Title and some widgets (like toggle-boxes or Buttons) doesn't contains an equivalence for the Cyrilic character you are trying to display.
FIX:
You must make sure that the fonts you are using for displaying in a specific Locale contains characters of the locale you have translated to.
Go to the Display Properties of your Desktop and in the APPEARANCE folder, check for the default fonts uses for:
Inactive Windows Title.
Active Windows Title.
Buttons.
If the font uses by your desktop doesn't contains the Target Character in the Locale you want to work, garbage will be displayed.
Make sure that the font set used contains Characters equivalence.
