GOAL:
Why doesn't the Progress 9.1x database icon show up in the Windows system tray when a DB is running?
FACT(s) (Environment):
Windows
Progress 9.1x
FIX:
The Progress 9.1x database icon will only shows up on Windows 9x system tray. This is because you're running the database on a Windows operating environment that does not support Windows services. Thus, Progress uses the Windows system tray to indicate that a database 'process' is running.
The Progress 9.1x database icon will not display within the Windows system tray when Progress is running on Windows NT, 2000, XP or 2003. This is because these Windows operating environments support Windows services. Thus, the Progress database can be seen running using one of the Progress services, such as AdminService (i.e. Progress Explorer) or ProService (i.e. ProControl).
