FACT(s) (Environment):
Windows 2000 Terminal Server
SYMPTOM(s):
Event Logger error: Could not find PROMSGS.DLL. (5194)
Progress installed on a file Server.
Progress installed on a mapped drive.
Service Pack 2 for Terminal Server installed.
CAUSE:
The error is caused by a known Microsoft bug. The bug occurs when the client that first opened the PROMSGS file logs off. The Terminal Server incorrectly closes all the file handles that the client had opened because all the file handles have been closed any additional programs that had accessed the PROMSGS file, no longer have valid files handles and are unable to access the file.
FIX:
Move the PROMSGS file to a local volume on the Terminal Server.
