VMS: Hangup Signal Received (562) or Unable to Open file 98
This kbase is being written to assist customers that are experiencing
hang up signals or unable to open file nl when running 4gl code which
does an output to or output stream nl:.
This is a known issue which can arise in 6.2N + and 7.3C + as well.
The problem is typically seen when sending output to nl (null).
There is a problem with the way channels are being open and closed
when sending output to nl. The problem can be worked around by
increasing the VMS sysgen parameter CHANNELCNT, This will increase
the number of channels on your system should you run into the issue
where the channels are not being closed and therefore eventually
run out of channels, which will result in the following errors:
Unable to open file: NL: Errno=24. (98). or
Hang up signal received. (562)
The ultimate solution for the problem is to contact DEC and request
the patch kit; AXPACRT03_061. This patch was for the Alpha
platform. However, if you contact DEC for the patch, you can ask for
the equivalent patch for your VMS Operating System / Platform.
