GOAL:
How to test for ODBC Connectivity with ODBC DataServer
FACT(s) (Environment):
Windows NT 32 Intel/Windows 2000
FACT(s) (Environment):
UNIX
FIX:
On Windows
With the Merant/Intersolve Driver 3.5, test ODBC connection using the "Test" button that appears on the ODBC Data Administrator when you configure a data source. The "Test" button makes a test connection to the data source you're trying to reach just after you've configured it. If the test completes successfully, then the ODBC DataServer "should" also connect successfully. If it fails then the Progress dataserver may be at fault (unless of course the problem occurred because the environment from which you run the "test" button is in some way different from the environment from which you run the dataserver).
On UNIX
The ivtestlib tool in the $ODBC/bin directory tests whether you can locate the ODBC/client shared objects. Then the $ODBC/demo/demoodbc executable performs the same "test connect" task as the "test" button on NT. Ivtestlib and
demoodbc are available on UNIX with the 3.5 (branded) drivers.
