v7 UIB RUN character mode tty window hangs PC or does nothin
SYMPTOM:
A character window (created in the UIB as an alternate layout or
window with display type "Character") will not RUN inside the UIB.
The .w can be run from the DOS Procedure Editor, but using RUN
within the UIB results in one of the following symptoms:
Displays a blue screen, then returns you to the UIB design window
PC hangs
Error (43) Cannot find or open ttyuib.pif
Windows GPF
CORRECTIVE MEASURES:
In order to run a character window inside the UIB, you must start a
windows server first. This is because running a character window
in v7 Progress starts up a separate Progress session in DOS. If you
are already running the UIB in a Windows single user mode session,
the DOS session will not be able to start up.
You can startup and shutdown the windows server by modifying the
command lines of the Progress Server and Server Shutdown icons in
your Progress group.
To start a windows server: wproserv yourdb -N WIPC.
To shutdown the windows server: wproshut yourdb -N WIPC.
To connect to the windows server: _prowin yourdb -N WIPC
NOTE: When running character mode from within Windows Progress,
it is essential to have DLC defined in autoexec.bat, and to have
the DLC\bin directory in your DOS PATH environment variable. Also,
your system.ini file must contain device=vwingd.386 in the [386Enh]
section.
