SYMPTOM(s):

Error 1058: The service cannot be started, either because it is disabled or because it has no enabled devices associated with it.

CAUSE:

AdminService for PROGRESS 9.1x is disabled.

FIX:

This error can result if the AdminService is disabled or if it has been disabled for the hardware profile that is currently being used.
The following steps will address the error:

1) Click Start, point to Settings, open the Control Panel. Open Administrative
Tools within the Control Panel, then double-click Services .

2) Double-click the AdminService for PROGRESS 9.1x.

3) Click the "Log On" tab.

4) Verify that the service has not been disabled for the hardware profile that
you are using. If it has, highlight it and click "Enable".

5) Click the General tab. Verify that the AdminService for PROGRESS 9.1x has not
been disabled in the "Startup Type" box. If it has, select "Automatic" to
have it start when the computer starts.
If you are running NT4, do the following:
1) Click Start, point to Settings, open the Control Panel. Double-click Services .

2) Double-click the AdminService for PROGRESS 9.1x.

3) Highlight the AdminService and click on "HW Profiles". Verify that the service has not been disabled for the hardware profile that
you are using. If it has, highlight it and click "Enable".

4) Exit step 3. Double-click on AdminService. Verify that the AdminService for PROGRESS 9.1x has not been disabled in the "Startup Type" box. If it has, select "Automatic" to have it start when the computer starts.
