GOAL:

Are large service packs to be the norm in the future?

GOAL:

Should customers expect larger download files with the Progress software service pack model?

GOAL:

Service packs take a long time to download?

GOAL:

Why are Progress service packs so much larger than previous Progress patches?

FACT(s) (Environment):

Progress 9.1D
UNIX
Windows

FIX:

Effective with the release of Progress 9.1D and WebSpeed 3.1D, Progress Software will replace the current software patch process for Core Products with Service Packs. The Service Pack model will allow tPC to deliver high quality software bug fixes to our customers in a more efficient way, allowing for a higher level of testing, including running our complete suite of regression tests. We have improved the usability of applying fixes by including an installation procedure to take customers through the steps of applying a Service Pack.

Service Packs for Core Products are scheduled to be released every three months, as needed, from the product's release delivery date. Service Packs will be released for all supported platforms at the same time, with the same version number and same fixes included for each.

Customers can download Service Packs through the "Product Update and Documentation" link on the Progress Software Technical Support web site
