GOAL:
What should be done to prepare a Progress database before defragmenting the disk?
FIX:
1. Ensure you have a valid backup of the database on a seperate disk/machine/tape.
2. Ensure that the database is shut down cleanly before beginning the defragmentation.
3. Remove any temp files (srt, lbi, dbl) and archive unused program files.
4. If you also take the opportunity to dump and load the database, this should be done before the defragmentation is run. See Solution 3293: Should the disk be defragmented before or after dump and load?
