Is JFS or JFS2 AIX File Systems certified against Progress Database?

GOAL:

Does Progress Software endorses the use of the Enhanced Journaling Filesystem (aka JFS2) on AIX for Progress RDBMS data storage

FACT(s) (Environment):

IBM AIX
Enhanced Journaling Filesystem JFS2
AIX 64-bit functionality
OpenEdge 10.x

FIX:

Progress Software endorses the use of the Enhanced Journaling Filesystem (aka JFS2) on AIX for Progress RDBMS data storage.

JFS is optimized for 32-bit kernel, and will run on 32-bit and 64-bit hardware. Enhanced JFS is optimized to run on the 64-bit kernel, allowing it to take advantage of 64-bit AIX functionality.

For database storage, JFS and JFS2 should have similar performance characteristics. JFS2 provides improved scalability in comparison to JFS; this is primarily for rapidly creating and deleting large numbers of files and searching directories that contain large numbers of files. Since database files tend to be fairly static the Progress RDBMS does not recommend use of this functionality.

The JFS2 filesystem is part of the AIX operating system, and as such, it is supported by IBM, not Progress.

There are functional differences between JFS and JFS2 filesystems. Please consult IBM documentation for details.

Use of the compression option for JFS with the Progress RDBMS is not recommended.
