'rfutil -C mark backedup' does not make error 1553 go away
The last backup was not completed successfully. (1553)

CAUSE:
This is expected behavior.
The only way to stop Progress from raising error 1553 is do to a complete backup with probkup.
FIX:
Do a full backup with probkup.
You can direct probkup to the null device, so that you need not use a tape, or space on disk.
For UNIX, you can run:
probkup <dbname> /dev
ull
For Windows, you can run:
probkup <dbname> NUL
