Within our documentation, we state that a larger size of the BI blocks allows PROGRESS to read and write more data at one time and this can reduce I/O rates on disks where the BI files are located.
It is definitely recommended to have as a minimum the BI block size equal to the OS block size.
Having a BI block size which is a multiple of the OS block size could also improve performance. Testing would be the only way for determining the optimum size for your system. The benefit of larger BO block size would be different according to the update activity on the database.
