How to configure Progress with MS-Windows Cluster

GOAL:

How to configure OpenEdge with an MS-Windows Cluster

FACT(s) (Environment):

Windows 2000
Windows 2003
Progress 9.1E
OpenEdge 10.0x

FIX:

The following steps should be taken as a guideline. Please refer to your cluster software vendor for more detailed information.

1) Install Progress with all the licenses locally (local hard disk) on both clusters machines.

2) Set the ubroker.properties and conmgr.properties in the active cluster with the Progress Explorer and copy it to the second cluster. The Databases have to be located in the cluster shared hard disks, and set as autostart.

3) By default when installing Progress, the AdminServer is set as autostart. This option has to be taken out.

4) Go to the active cluster (Start button->Programs->Administrative Tools->Cluster Administrator). Create a resource (under the resources folder), selecting Resource type: "Generic Service" and Group: Cluster Group. In resource dependencies add the cluster hard disks where the database is located. As service name add the service name (The name is displayed in Services when the Progress service is clicked twice). For instance for AdminServer for PROGRESS 9.1C the service name is AdminService9.1C.

No need to add any registry replication since Progress has been installed locally on both machines and the registry entries are the same.

5) Start the AdminServer manually in the Active cluster.

NAMESERVER, APPSERVER and WEBSPEED:
With the above steps the databases and failover will work properly, but this is not the case for AppServer and Webspeed. To have them working properly we have to configure them giving the cluster hostname. To do that in the AppServer or Webspeed broker properties, in the Controlling NameServer tab, for the Registration Mode section it is necessary to choose "Use Host name" option and give the Cluster hostname.
