GOAL:

Do I need separate license installed on the client machine when I use terminal server?

GOAL:

What kind of license is needed when I have a terminal server client configuration?

FACT(s) (Environment):

Citrix MetaFrame (for Windows 2000 Terminal Server)
Citrix MetaFrame (for Windows NT 4.0 Terminal Server)

FIX:

Progress database supports two types of clients: Self Service clients and Client/Server clients.

If the Progress Database is running on the Terminal Server itself, the users connecting to the Progress Database server via Terminal Server can be Self Service clients. In this case no additional Progress license other than the Database License is needed on the Terminal Server; the database product includes the Self Service client license.

Note that if SQL connections to the database (ODBC or JDBC) are required, the SQL Client Access component is required. This is a free deployment component that can be obtained from the Download Center (http://www.progress.com/esd/index.ssp). The client machine connecting to the Terminal Server does not need any Progress licenses installed.

If the Progress Database is running on another server, a Client Networking license is needed on the Terminal Server. The Client Networking license count is the same as the number of Progress users connecting to the Terminal Server. So in this case a Progress Database license is not needed on the Terminal Server client a Client Networking license is needed on the Terminal Server if you are running Progress client/server, but not if you're running self-service connections.

For licensing it does not matter if you install Client Networking on each client or once on the Terminal Server. You need the same amount of Client Networking licenses.
