Status: Unverified
FACT(s) (Environment):
SuSe Linux 8.0
SYMPTOM(s):
Can not shut down the database.
Proshut hangs.
Proshut -F -by hangs
New installation
CAUSE:
In this instance root was the only user that had permission to execute the Proshut command. The Proshut command was executed using a Telnet session. Since it is generally considered to be a bad idea to log on as root without encryption, root login is only possible on the console and via ssh. So far this has only been seen on SUSE Linux.
FIX:
If you wish to run Progress executables as root you must log into the SUSE machine at the console or use ssh.
