SYMPTOM(s):
An error occurred while receiving a message from the NameServer - Error: (8551)
An error occurred while receiving a message from the NameServer - Error: Connection reset by peer. (8551)
Error 8551 appears in broker log file
After error 8551, broker then hangs
No error in name server log file
When the problem occurs, Name server starts and be ready (or not started at all) AFTER the broker is started and has attempted to register with name server.
Problem occurs to all unified brokers that interacts with name server, such as app server, MSS broker, ORACLE broker and webspeed broker.
Symptom most seen in circumstances where the brokers are configured to auto start but not limited to such conditions.
Can not upgrade to 9.1C
CAUSE:
Bug# 20010108-021
CAUSE:
Reported problem is caused by the fact that on the affected platforms, for example, Windows 2000, the UDP receive() operation throws a Socket exception if it does not receive a message from the NameServer. Because of this, the NotifyNameServer thread exits, leaving the broker unable to register with the NameServer.
FIX:
Always start name server and verify it is running prior to starting broker or upgrade to Progress 9.1C and later
