GOAL:
What Progress license do I need to use to run Progress application connecting to as/400?
GOAL:
What license do I need in OpenEdge to connect to AS/400 database?
GOAL:
What license do I need in V9 to connect to AS/400 database
FACT(s) (Environment):
OpenEdge 10.x
Progress 9.x
Progress/400 DataServer
ODBC DataServer
IBM AS/400 (RISC)
Windows
FIX:
The license requirement differs in V9 and in OpenEdge.
Progress/400 DataServer license is used for V9. This license needs to be installed in as/400. It has Native 4GL client capability to run progress application on as/400 as well. Since this product is mature, any bug found will not be fixed in the future, only the basic support will be provided. The product is already retired in September, 2004.
OpenEdge 10.0A ODBC DataServer license or higher release is now available to read/insert/update/delete records on the DB2/400 database. This license needs to be installed on Windows machine. The license will include DataDirect DB2 wired Driver to connect to the DB2/400 database.
Using one of those two licenses one can create a schema holder in the client machine which will map the table name and field name and the data type of either progress Database that was pushed to the DB2/400 Database or pulled from the DB2/400 ODBC data source schema to windows machine. One can then connect to the schema holder and run progress application.
