GOAL:
Does Progress support using operating system commands and/or utilities to copy a database from one operating system platform to another?
FACT(s) (Environment):
UNIX
FACT(s) (Environment):
Windows
FACT(s) (Environment):
Progress 8.x
FACT(s) (Environment):
Progress 9.x
FIX:
Progress does not support the use of operating system commands and/or utilities to copy a database from one operating system platform to another.
Example: SUN Solaris to RedHat Linux.
The only supported database migration method between unlike operating systems platforms is a complete dump and load of the Progress database. However, copying databases between machines that run the same operating systems can successfully be done (using operating system commands and/or utilities), but we highly discourage this as well.
