SYMPTOM(s):

Errors 2329 and 612 during prorest when restoring to a different machine. Add new database extents.

SYSTEM ERROR: Invalid block <block> for file <file-name>, max is <max-block> (2329)

SYSTEM ERROR: Possible file truncation, <block-offset> too big for database. (612)

The same structure file (.st file) is being used that was used on the original machine.

FACT(s) (Environment):

UNIX
Progress/OpenEdge Product Family

CAUSE:

The new machine's file system does not have large file support enabled, whereas the old machine's file system did.

Therefore the old file system allowed the database extents to grow beyond 2GB whereas the new file system will give the above errors once it hits 2GB.

FIX:

Modify the new database's structure file (.st file) and add new extents for the area that is failing.

Then, proceed to re-create the database structure again and restore into it.
