Kbase P4482: Error 1083 on SCO OpenServer
Autor   Progress Software Corporation - Progress
Acesso   Público
Publicação   10/15/2008
Status: Verified

FACT(s) (Environment):

SCO OpenServer 5.0.4
SCO OpenServer 5.0.6
SCO OpenServer 5.0.5

SYMPTOM(s):

Error (1083) when starting up the database using a big -B

SYSTEM ERROR: Number of private slots in segment table exhausted (1083)

CAUSE:

The SHMMAX kernel parameter is set to the default value of 512K on SCO OpenServer. Starting a database with a large buffer pool "-B" will require more Shared Memory Segments/Identifiers SHMSEG per process than the kernel or Progress will allow.

FIX:

Increase the SHMMAX kernel parameter and relink the kernel. This will require fewer shared memory segments/identifiers per database. A 32-bit Progress database broker can address up to 21 shared memory segments with a maximum segment size of 128 megs.
