PKB application will not run in a version 8 environment

The PKB on CD-ROM will not function concurrently
with a version 8 session running on Windows.

The most likely error seen from starting the PKB application
while running a version 8 session on the same machine is:

"Database has wrong version number (44)".

The reason for this is that the PKB
application does not overwrite the current
environmental settings, but rather assumes
the current ones.

Your options are:

1. Run either your version 8 environment - or the PKB
(in the version 7 environment), but not concurrently.

2. The quarterly update shipping as of 9/6/96 will have
the new executable which will allow the PKB to run
concurrently in a version 8 environment. To run the
executable, modify the PKB command line within the
Windows 3.1 Program Item or Windows 95 Shortcut to
read as follows:

<CD-ROM drive>:\_propkb.exe -pf pkb.pf -T <drive-name:\temp_dir>

This modification will now allow you run the PKB
within your version 8 environment.
