Pentium upgrade to new Triton chip set caused Progress hang
The new Triton 2 or Orion chip sets for INTEL Pentium might require a
BIOS voltage adjustment to match the motherboard timing to the chip
timing. If the adjustment is not made and a Progress database broker
is started it may result in an immediate hang of the broker.
One customer installed the new chip into his SCO UNIX system and
started his Progress db broker with no problem but when the first user
logged in the db broker hung. There no errors or other indication of
what has caused the problem. Apparantly not all of the system's 128mb
of memory was accessable because of the timing mismatch.
The chips come with a GUI administration tool which allows users to
set the timing.
