Error: "You cannot add any more components to this index"
Cannot manually modify the .df
CAUSE:
The actual limit for version 8/9 is 16 fields in a compound index, on Windows there is no problem creating an index with over 10 fields. However on some flavours of UNIX you might get the error "You cannot add more components to this index" when adding field number 11.
This is only a problem in the dictionary itself, if you load a .df (or a delta.df) with an index with over 10 fields to your database then this is accepted without problem.

FIX:
Connect to the database via client/server from a Windows machine and perform the modification using the Windows GUI data dictionary.
