Kbase P39912: Do SCO OpenServer clients need to have JRE in their path?

GOAL:

Do SCO OpenServer clients need to have JRE in their path?

FACT(s) (Environment):

SCO OpenServer
Progress 9.x
OpenEdge 10.x

FIX:

The Java is required for Progress on the SCO OpenServer host to start and run the AdminService, SQL engine and for supporting AppServers, Name Servers, etc via the AdminServer and is not required for SCO OpenServer 4GL client.

Progress does not support any native SQL-92 / JDBC support, so there should not be any need for the SCO OpenServer Client to have any JRE information in the client's environment as far as Progress is concerned.

The only time the SCO OpenServer client would be required to have the JRE in their path is if SQL-89 access was being used and a JDBC or VB application was using an ODBC Bridge (if one is available) to connect to the database via SQL-89.
