SYMPTOM(s):
Backup performance problem on Win2000 Server
Probkup slow on Win2k Server
Microsoft SP3 for Win2000 installed
No additional memory can be added
FACT(s) (Environment):
Windows 2000
CAUSE:
Bug# OE00075891
CAUSE:
probkup is reading each database block and this fills the OS cache on Win2k Server (not on Win2K professional).
FIX:
Add additional memory. Tests have shown that for a 35 Gig DB you need 2Gig of Memory on the machine for good performance of probkup.
If additional memory cannot be added, an alternative is to run every few minutes "cacheset" (from "sysinternals") so that the cache is emptied and no paging is occurring.
It is to be noted that such problem does not exist on Win2000 Professional.
