FACT(s) (Environment):
Progress 9.1D SP6
Progress 9.1D SP7
Windows NT 32 Intel/Windows 2000
SYMPTOM(s):
Database settings gone from ProControl after installing Progress service pack
Registry keys for ProService are removed
CAUSE:
When uninstalling Progress, a file is left in the "Windows" directory containing the ProControl settings. This file is then used if the same version of Progress is reinstalled to restore the ProControl settings.
Now that Progress uses service packs instead of patch kits, the install program is run more than once per installation of Progress. This causes this file with the "saved" settings to be restored when it should not be.
FIX:
Workaround:
This file should be deleted BEFORE the service pack is installed. The file name is "ProService_Uninstall" and can be found in the "Windows" directory (normally c:\windows or c:\winnt).
