multiple databases on one backup tape prorest probkup
WE DO NOT SUPPORT MULTIPLE PROBKUP SAVES ON ONE TAPE!
WE DON"T RECOMMEND MULTIPLE SAVES ON ONE TAPE!
How to backup and restore more than one database onto a tape:
Using a no-rewind tape device backup all the databases.
When you want to restore a database you need to use the
File Skip Function of mt.
To get the first database:
mt -f /dev/rmt/xt0 rewind
mt -f /dev/rmt/xt0n fsf 1
prorest demo /dev/rmt/xt0n
Note that the database is NOT the first file on the tape!
Then to get the second database you have to skip 2 files, then
to get the third skip 4 files.
As with any backup/restore strategy, you must test the restore
process to verify you can recover from tape when necessary.
The significant drawback to the strategy of having more than one
database per tape, is that if the tape is lost, corrupted, or
destroyed, all databases on that tape are lost rather than just one.
