GOAL:
Is it possible to use Report Builder with Oracle?
FIX:
Connecting directly from Report Builder to Oracle - this isn't possible. Our Oracle dataserver product is required.
Basically, Report Builder acts just like any other Progress client and would connect to the schema holder created by the Progress dataserver for the Oracle database. The schema holder is just a Progress database, and when we talk about e.g. a Progress 4GL client connecting to Oracle, what is really meant is that the 4GL client connects to the schema holder, which in turn is connected with the Oracle database. There is no direct connection.
Running Report Builder against the Oracle database is thus possible, but only when the dataserver product is also installed.
It is also possible to run existing reports against the Oracle database, even when these reports were created against a Progress database. To do this the database connection information needs to be overridden as described, for example, in How to override database connection from a Progress database to Oracle within Report Builder?
