SYMPTOM(s):
Webspeed messenger displays error 8239 in the browser
Name Server at Host <Host> Port <Port> is not responsive. (8239)
Name Server at Host 10.150.8.39 Port 25001 is not responsive. (8239)
Unable to access NameServer at host (10.150.8.39), port (25001) cs_status = (-4016)
Distributed configuration, webserver/messenger on 1 machine, name server and transaction server on another machine
Firewall in between
UDP packets are reaching the NameServer and response is received by the
machine where the messenger resides, this is confirmed by monitoring firewall log
minNSClientPort and maxNSClientPort are set and used by the messenger
CAUSE:
On the webserver / messenger machine, TCP Networking properties have enabled filtering with 'permit only' rule
for the UDP protocol with no ports assigned.
FIX:
On the webserver /messenger machine, change the TCP/IP Filtering network settings:
Control panel -> Network Connections -> Local Area Connection ->
Properties -> TCP/IP -> Properties -> Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) ->
Properties -> <Advanced...> button -> Options tab -> Properties ->
TCP/IP filtering
You can choose "Permit All" or "Permit Only" for TCP, UDP and IP.
If "Permit Only" is being used for the UDP, then the NameServer UDP port
number should be added to the list.
